Function of the Retina
Functional Group Chemistry by James R. Hanson, Functional Group Chemistry presents the chemistry of functional groups with an emphasis on patterns of reactivity, the consequences of the relative electronegativity of the atoms that constitute functional groups, the role of lone pairs and the stereochemistry of reactions at a particular group. The material is presented in four chapters. The first chapter describes some of the general principles that affect the reactivity of functional groups. The second chapter examines the chemistry of functional groups involving (sigma)- C-X bonds as in alkyl halides, alcohols, ethers, amines and organometallic reagents. The third chapter covers the chemistry of both symmetrical and unsymmetrical (pi)-bonded functional groups, typified by alkenes and carbonyl groups. The final chapter concentrates on aromatic compounds. It is concerned with the interactions between an aromatic ring and functional groups that are attached to it, such as their effect on the orientation of aromatic substitution. Each chapter concludes with a series of problems. The chemistry of the functional groups is considered here with a mechanistic rationale.Students are encouraged to consider the reactivity of functional groups in terms of their regions of electron deficiency and excess, and hence to identify the sites at which nucleophiles and electrophiles might react.
Functional Assessment: Strategies to Prevent and Remediate Challenging Behavior in School Settings by Lynette K. Chandler, This book is unique in its wide application to a number of settings. The comprehensive, practical treatment of functional assessment addresses preschool through high school levels, regular education and self-contained classroom settings, and special and regular student populations. Its strong use of vignettes and open-ended case studies promotes problem solving among readers as they identify the function of behavior, choose intervention options, and pinpoint typical functional assessment practices. Focuses on three functions of behavior--positive reinforcement, negative reinforcement, and sensory stimulation/sensory regulation. Covers specific interventions by function, with coverage of intervention techniques. Encourages positive, team-based approaches to the prevention and remediation of challenging behavior. Provides practical solutions, instructing readers on how to conduct functional assessment in the classroom as well as other school settings and how to choose and apply interventions based on functional assessment.
Retinoschisis - Retinoschisis is an uncommon eye disease characterized by the abnormal splitting of the retina's sensory layers, usually in the outer plexiform layer, with resulting loss of visual function The retina, which consists of multiple layers of interconnected nerve and pigment cells, separates into separate layers resulting in a loss of vision in the corresponding visual field. Function prototype - A function prototype in C or C++ is a declaration of a function that omits the function body but does specify the function's name, arity, argument types and return type. While a function definition specifies what a function does, a function prototype can be thought of as specifying its interface. Sinc function - In mathematics, the sinc function (for sinus cardinalis), also known as the interpolation function, filtering function or the first spherical Bessel function j_0(x), is the product of a sine function and a monotonically decreasing function. It is defined by: Function prologue - In assembly language programming, the function prologue is a few lines of code which appear at the beginning of a function, which prepare the stack and registers for use within the function. Similarly, the function epilogue appears at the end of the function, and restores the stack and registers back to the state they were in before the function was called.
